New customer to SGDetailing, Livingston West Lothian with a majestic Audi A8. After a leaflet distribution was done the new customer Drew dropped by to have a look at what SGDetailing.com does. A " Safe Wash " was demonstrated and it was agreed that his car would be dropped off for Full Paint Correction, a Full Wheel Refurbishment and Quartz Ceramic Protection.
Saturday the 19th July was arrival day and work began on what would take up to one week's work. The car was given a " Safe Wash " to decontaminate the car and using a Hyper Wash the cars surface was cleansed of all chemicals already applied. The car was then taken inside and hand dried with micro fibre towels. Once dried the car was then given a clay bar treatment to remove finer dust, dirt and other possible contaminants existing prior to any machine work done on the paint surface.
Once the car surface had been prepared a test area was done on the boot lid to determine what pad and compound would be best for the damaged paint work. Rupes Medium Compound with a Green pad was the chosen combination to get the paint back to better than new and a deep shine and lustre.
Firstly a Stage 1 was completed all over the vehicle to remove 50 to 75% of swirl marks and light to medium scratches. Once that was completed a Stage 2 was carried out to further refine the paint and remove the remaining scratches and holograms from deep within the paint itself. After the Paint Correction was completed total time on the Correction was around 26 hours in all, the car was taken outside and given another " Safe Wash " to remove dust and correction residue after the machine work. The car was then hand dried again and then taken inside to be blow dried to ensure no water was anywhere prior to Quartz Coatings were applied. The car was then left to dry and get the body temperature up to around 20 to 22 degrees, at this temperature coatings bond better and gives longevity of the chemicals.
Then it was time for the brake calipers to be prepared and cleaned ready for hand painting, first the rust, dirt, grime and road build up was removed safely using a brake cleaner and then using a wire brush was used thoroughly to remove as much surface rust as possible, then a drill attachment was used to get a cleaner finish before any painting work was done. The calipers were then given a clean with an deoxidisation cleaner before metal primer bond and then primer was applied. Each step of the process was at least 3 to 6 hours to allow enough drying and paint curing time. A final heat resistant paint was applied and lacquer coat to finish.
The Audi A8's alloy wheels were sent to the Powder Coaters and came back looking amazing as expected. New wheel centre caps were bought new fro Audi in Edinburgh and duly fitted to give the wheels the right look, also the tyres were filled with Nitrogen to increase fuel economy, tyre life and better longevity.
The interior was deep cleaned including leather feeder and serum and cleanser, the floor mats were removed and cleaned using an extraction machine. All glass was cleaned, plastic surfaces cleaned and dressed with anti static chemical to reduce dust gathering.
Finally Cquartz from CarPro UK was applied to the entire vehicle one panel at a time then buffed off and left for about 5 minutes before another coat was applied. After 2 coats had been applied the car was left for 1 hour and another final coat was put on. Once buffed off again the car was left for another hour before being given 2 coats of Reload.
External plastics were treated, glass cleaned, tyres dressed and a final dust over to remove any grease, dust or fingerprints.
